Speed Queen dryer running full cycles but not drying — New Milford, NJ
Every part on this machine worked. It still could not dry a load, and the reason had nothing to do with the parts.

The call
The dryer started, tumbled, heated and finished its cycle exactly as it should — and the load came out damp enough to need a second round. The complaint was drying, not running.
What we found
A dryer does not dry by getting hot. It dries by pulling air through the load and pushing that wet air out of the house; heat only lets the air carry more water. Take the airflow away and the machine still heats, still tumbles, still counts down — and the water has nowhere to go. That is the difference between this and a dryer with no heat, which is almost always a failed part.
Here nothing had failed. Inside the cabinet the lint had turned from loose fluff into felt: drifted under the drum, furred over the blower housing, packed around the motor and rollers. Every one of those parts worked — inside a machine that could barely breathe.
The worst of it was the transition duct behind the machine, and it was past cleaning: split open along its length, with a solid plug of lint inside that lifted out in one piece. The blower was pushing wet air partly into a blocked pipe and partly out through the tear, into the room instead of outside. Worth catching early — a restricted dryer runs longer and hotter every load, and that is the condition dryers are in when they start fires.
The fix
Cleared the machine properly rather than superficially — cabinet, blower housing, motor, duct connection — and went over the drive components and thermostats while the panels were off. The transition duct was not cleaned; it was replaced. A split run packed that hard does not go back into service, and putting the machine back on it would have undone the whole visit.
Airflow can honestly be checked on the spot, and it was: the exhaust moved properly again instead of the weak trickle it had before. We did not stand there for a full load; that takes the better part of an hour.
What we left with the owner rather than sold her: this state announces itself. Cycles creep longer, the machine runs hotter. That is the point to call.
